- Nigerian politicians have been accused by the EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu, of plotting to destroy the achievements of the anti-graft agency
- Magu stated that the move by the legislature to take the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit out of the EFCC’s jurisdiction, was borne out of an ulterior motive
- He noted that the lawmakers accelerated passage of the bill to remove the NFIU from the EFCC in just 7 days; a practice which he described as being alien to other countries
The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has accused Nigerian politicians of plotting to destroy the achievements of the anti-graft agency, The Cable reports.
The EFCC boss made his comments when he received the director-general of the Inter-Governmental Action against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), Adama Coulibaly, in Abuja, the nations’ capital.

NAIJ.com notes that Magu accused politicians of being behind the crisis in the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).
He stated: “Politicians are behind the NFIU crisis because they want to destroy the achievements recorded by the EFCC.
“The frantic move by the legislature to take the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) out of the EFCC was suspicious and borne out of an ulterior motive.
“There is a complete misunderstanding about the workings of the NFIU, and it is surprising that the new bill by the legislators pushing for removal of the NFIU from the EFCC was passed in seven days.
“This is a practice that has never happened in any part of the world.”
