A socio-cultural organisation in has raised alarm over an alleged plan by Fulani herdsmen to attack Benue state.

The socio cultural group led by Engineer Edward Ujege made the allegation on Monday, October 16, when it visited the visited Governor Ortom, the Tribune reports.
The association which consists of the forum of Mdzough U Tiv, Idoma National Forum and Omi Nyigede, claims Fulani militia were already converging at the Nigeria-Cameroon border and at the Agatu border with Nasarawa state in preparation for the attack.
It said: “The principal umbrella socio-cultural organizations of the Tiv, ldoma and lgede Nations has been drawn to reports of an alleged armed Fulani militia build-up and convergence at the Nigeria-Cameroon border and at the Agatu border with Nasarawa State to the North West of Benue State.
“It was reliably gathered that leadership of the herdsmen have held clandestine meetings in Nigeria and abroad to visit mayhem and genocide on the people of Benue State.
“The plot is said to be multi-directional and aimed to simultaneously invade and attack Benue from every angle so that there would be no escape for your defenseless people.
The group urged the governor of the state to avert a disaster by taking measures to address the threat.
The spokesman for the organisation cited the past threat by the Miyatti to resist the anti-open grazing law as the reason for the planned attack.

The association called on the federal government and its agencies to act and ensure that the planned attack does not take place.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the military and the police to put mechanism in place to ensure that there is no reprisal attacks in Plateau state.
Vanguard reports that President Buhari who was reacting to the killing of over 20 persons by suspected herdsmen said the madness should not be allowed to continue.
