Northern leaders and elders of the Peoples Democratic Party from 19 states are currently having a meeting in Abuja, The Punch reports.
The party members are said to be meeting to discuss the race for the chairmanship position of the party, which is being chaired by a former minister of information, Prof.Jerry Gana.

Those present at the meeting include the chairman of the national caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, representatives of Senate and House of Assembly caucuses and former governors.
According to a previous report by NAIJ.com, the recent endorsement of former Ogun state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, for the national chairmanship of the PDP, by former head of state, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida aka IBB, has generated controversy.
Babangida had declared his support for Daniel on Wednesday, October 4, during a visit by the former Ogun governor, to his Minna hilltop mansion.

IBB described the former governor as the ‘breathe of fresh air’ the party needs at the moment.
Meanwhile, the director-general of Professor Tunde Adeniran Campaign Organisation, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, has urged PDP faithfuls across the country to reward loyal party members with key positions in its forthcoming convention in December.
Gabam made the call during an interaction with journalists on Monday, October 9, at the campaign office of Professor Tunde Adeniran.
Professor Adeniran, a former minister of education, is one of the key contenders of the PDP chairmanship race.
