Governor Ugwuanyi honours 16-year-old Enugu indigene with 9 As in WAEC (photos)

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has honoured a student identified as Nnenna Eneh at the hallowed chambers of the Enugu state executive council.

The 16-year-old young lady was honoured at the council for achieving nine As in all her subjects at the 2017 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination.

You may recall that NAIJ.com reported that the Enugu state government previously honoured another student Cynthia Chinecherem Ali who also had 9 As in her WAEC.

Chinecherem also graduated as the best student of Shalom Academy, Nsukka in 2017.

After the meeting with members of the state executive council, the governor expressed delight at the performance of the young girl.

Uchenna Eze, the commissioner for education who was accompanied by his counterpart from Ministry of Information, Ogbuagu Anikwe, and the girl’s father, Mr Fidelis, stated that the state government was impressed with number of indigenes doing well with their education.

The commissioner revealed that the state awarded the brilliant girl with a cash gift and a certificate of recognition as an ambassador of the state.

Eze said: “With this kind of brilliant performance, we believe that the sky will be her limit and we are praying that other young ones will emulate her, as hard work is the only road to this kind of achievement. The EXCO approved a cash award and there will be a certificate of honour bearing His Excellency’s seal.”

The young girl who was represented by her father said she is delighted to be honoured for her hard work. She also thanked the governor for his effort to improve and provide better education in the state.

Fidelis said: “Your Excellency, you invited me her in view of my daughter’s performance. I hope she would have been here by herself. That would have made her day. A few minutes ago I was reading something somebody was commenting on His Excellency’s commitment to education. “Incidentally, if this is the only thing the girl will be associated with, His Excellency’s directive here has made her vision a reality and I sincerely thank the governor on behalf of the young girl for this gesture.”
