What is Department of Petroleum Resources?

Before we jump into the whole registration deal, let’s define what DPR Nigeria is and what it does. DPR (which stands for Department of Petroleum Resources) is one of the departments in the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources. It has existed in its current format since 1988. Today’s director of DPR is Mordecai Ladan.

DPR is responsible for importation and exploration of petroleum resources. The department also controls that the aforementioned processes are carried out in accordance to safety protocols. In addition, it manages the down- and upstream in the Nigerian petroleum industry. If you want to know about the full scope of DPR’s functions, click here.

Every once in a while, the Corporate Services of the DPR announce a new wave of recruitment in order to find new staff members. As of writing this article, DPR has not announced the opening of the registration yet. Nevertheless, you can still find out how to apply for a position at DPR once they reopen it. Without further ado, let’s figure out what you need to register.

Typically, the DPR usually hires both fresh polytechnic/university graduates and experienced workers. Each category has its own requirements for the candidates, and we will tell you about them in details.

If you belong to the graduate category, you need to:

  • Have a certificate of discharge/exemption from the National Youth Service Corps.

  • Have at least basic computer skills.

If your application is approved, you will be able to develop relevant skills and knowledge in the sphere of petroleum resources with help from experienced DPR employees.

For experienced hire, the requirements are slightly different. If you have experience working in the oil and gas industry and want to apply for a position at DPR, you need to:

  • Have at least 5 years of experience working in the industry or have the same amount of years of other relevant experience.
  • Be younger than 40 years of age.
  • Have a certificate of discharge/exemption from the National Youth Service Corps.
  • Have at least basic computer skills.

If your application is successful, you will be able to build your career in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria and hone your existing skills in the sphere.

In order to apply online, all candidates (regardless of their experience) need to attach scanned copies of their documents to their application that they can fill on DPR recruitment website. This includes (but is not limited to) a scanned passport photo, copies of education certificates, a copy of NYSC certificate and other supporting documents.

A few things you should know:

  • You can only apply for an advertised position. In addition to this, you can only apply for one position. If you have multiple applications for different positions to your name, they will all be disqualified.
  • After you have submitted your application, you would receive a confirmation that contains your reference number and the status of your application. You should use this reference number in any future letters/e-mails.
  • DPR usually gives the applicants six weeks (counting from the announcement of open positions) to fill the applications.
  • If you find yourself on the shortlist, you will be required to take a Computer Based Test.

That is all for requirements. Now it is time to take a look at registration guidelines.

Before you even begin the application process, you need to carefully read through the requirements. Figure out what category you qualify for (if you even qualify at all) and what documents you need. After that, you can proceed to the registration page.

As the registration is currently closed, we cannot give you a direct link, but it is not that hard to find on the DPR recruitment website.

Here are the steps you need to take in order to submit your application:

  • When you find yourself on the registration page, fill out the required information, check whether it is correct and click ‘Register’. If everything went well, you should receive a confirmation e-mail in the next few minutes.
  • After you have received the confirmation, go to the login page (you can find the link in the e-mail you have received) and fill in your login and password.
