- IGP Ibrahim Idris has filed a suit before the High Court in Abuja to stop the Senate from investigating him
- The allegations of corruption against the IGP include collecting over N10bn from firms for security
- The accusations come from the lawmaker, representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Isah Misau
On Thursday, October 12, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, filed a suit before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja.
He was seeking an order restraining the Senate and Senate President Bukola Saraki from going ahead with their plan to investigate allegations of malpractices against him.
The IG had denied the allegations against him, most of which were brought up by the lawmaker, representing Bauchi Central senatorial district, Isah Misau.
Misau said the IG collected about N10bn monthly from some firms and highly-placed Nigerians for giving them security cover.
Meanwhile the force headquarters had accused Misau of leaving the force with forged retirement papers.

Misau who was a former police officer before being elected to the Senate, accused IGP Idris of granting fraudulent promotions to undeserving police operatives.
According to Punch, he also argued that the level of corruption being perpetrated by Idris was so alarming and capable of undermining the anti-corruption stance of President Muhammadu Buhari.
On his own part, Idris had alleged that Misau was a deserter and asked the court to declare both the Senate committee set up to probe the allegations and the conduct of the committee as unconstitutional, null and void.
Idris also wants the court to make an order restraining the committee from inviting him, sitting, conducting any hearing on the allegation, discussing or making any report in respect of the planned investigation pending the determination of his suit.
Bukola Saraki had mandated the Senate committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions to investigate the circumstances surrounding Misau’s disengagement from the Nigeria police.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Isah Misau was accused by Concerned Democrats of Conscience (CDC) of being used by a cabal in the senate to tarnish the image of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris.
The group said that tarnishing the IGP's image is part of a scheme to blackmail President Muhammadu Buhari.
Alhaji Ibrahim Modibbo, the national president disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday, October 10, at the end of the organisation’s 40th extra-ordinary meeting.
