PDP National chairmanship: Adolphus Wabara reveals why south-east supports south-west for coveted position

- Former Senate president, Adolphus Wabara, has insisted that an individual from the southwest should be chosen as the next national chairman of the PDP

- Wabara stated that it would be the best thing to happen to the opposition party if a southwest person is chosen to lead it

- He further disclosed that the southeast would support a southwest national chairman, because the Igbos had hopes of producing the next president and would need their (southwest) support to achieve this

Adolphus Wabara, former Senate president, has insisted that the best thing to happen to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would be for an individual from the South-West to emerge as the party’s national chairman.

According to reports, Wabara made his comments, in a chat with newsmen after receiving reports of the PDP ward congresses which held all across Oyo state.

He stated: “I think that is the best thing to happen to the party. That is the best thing to happen to the PDP.

“I have a lot of friends from the South-South that are interested in that position, but I think in the interest of the party, it is time to key in.

“Yes, because the South-East, as an Igbo man, we also want to produce the president after the North. So we will support the South-West; we will support the South-West to support us when the time comes, and that is why the South-East is not in the race for the national chairmanship of the party.

“So we are now humble, we are humble and we are praying that one day we will come and produce the president.”

The race for the PDP chairmanship is gathering momentum and many chieftains of the party from the southwest have indicated interest to lead the party.

One of those interested in the position is Professor Tunde Adeniran.

NAIJ.com previously reported that the director-general of the Tunde Adeniran Campaign Organisation, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, said that the declaration of the former minister for the national chairmanship position of the PDP opens another chapter for the party to regain its prominent place in the democratic affairs of the country.

Gabam, a former chief of staff to the Bauchi state government, stated that Adeniran’s candidature was based on his proven and unblemished track records.
