There was a stampede at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo as Nigeria Super Eagles beat Zambia in a Group B World cup qualifier on Saturday, October 7.
But contrary to reports in some quarters that a couple of fans who came out to watch the game were allegedly sent to their early graves, NAIJ.com can report that there was no case of death at the stadium.
However, scores were feared injured as a result of the stampede.

There was commotion at some of the entry points of the stadium as thousands of Nigerian football lovers who had gathered at the stadium tried to gain entrance.

Some of the football fans were allegedly attacked with sticks by soldiers deployed to the venue to control the crowd but ambulances were also seen conveying injured persons to the hospital.
However, some fans who escaped unhurt, lamented the loss of some personal effects.
Speaking on the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Elkana Bala, assured that the stampede would be investigated. He also refuted claims that people died at the stadium.
“It is confirmed that nobody died. But some persons were injured while struggling to gain access into the stadium. The injured persons were taken to hospital for medical attention,” Bala said.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria qualified for the 2018 World Cup after a 1-0 win over Zambia on Saturday, October 7, at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
Arsenal star Alex Iwobi scored in the 73rd minute few minutes after coming in to give Nigeria all three points that take them to 13 points on the log and against the reach of Zambia who have 7 points with a game in hand.
