- Ohanaze Ndigbo has revealed why it supported southeast governors on the ban of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)
- The group said the southeast governor averted a massive bloodbath in the region
- The president of Ohanaeze also urged Igbo leader to push for the restructuring of Nigeria rather than the secession of Biafra
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has revealed why it supported the ban of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by governor from the southeast region.
The group said the southeast governor did well for the people in the region and Nigeria as a whole by saving millions of lives and dousing tension in the region.
Speaking in Umuahia, the national president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Nwodo said the region was saved from a major blood bath.

Nwodo said many of the people especially the youths in region misunderstood the action of the southeast governors.
He said the governors took, “out of a genuine desire to safeguard the lives of young people.”
Nwodo also said the group would not allow the southeast to be cut off prematurely.
Nwodo said: “That was what the governors did and Ohanaeze Ndigbo is happy with the wisdom showed by our governors. I am particularly pleased with the foresight of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for timely imposition of a curfew on the commercial city of Aba."
“By that singular action, several lives were saved, and it helped to calm the tension down. Governor Ikpeazu, you are a wise man and we are grateful to you," Nwodo added.
He also said that though the people of the region are not happy with the current situation and marginalisation of the people in southeast.

The Ohanaeze said the agitation for Biafra secession is not in the interest of the Igbo people.
“We should forget Biafra and insist on restructuring. We must seek for peaceful ways of resolving the issues,” he said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Ohanaeze Ndigbo had advised all Igbos to abandon the ongoing agitation for Biafra.
The group through its leader said the struggle for the break up of Nigerian is huge.
The group also urged all the Igbo leaders to continue to push for the restructuring of Nigeria rather than the secession for Biafra.
Nwodo had also warned the members of the IPOB that nothing could be achieved through hate speech.
