Antonio Conte warns Chelsea, says they could lose their star player

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has warned the club's board that they might lose goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois if they do not take his contract talks seriously.

The Belgian number one has a year left on his contract. His camp and the Chelsea board have failed to agree on suitable terms which has led to speculation over the shot-stopper.

Chelsea are well aware that long-term admirers Real Madrid are watching the situation, while Paris Saint-Germain and Conte’s former club Juventus have been alerted to the situation.

Conte has given his opinion regarding the issue, he said: “I must be honest, I think that this question is for the club, not for me.

“I like to give my opinion about technical decisions. It is important for the club to face this issue, to face this contract with Courtois.

"For sure I can tell that Courtois is one of the best, maybe the best goalkeeper in the world, and he is a player who is very important for Chelsea. I can tell this. But for sure the renewal is a task for the club.

“If a big player decides to not sign a new contract it is difficult for a club to try to avoid this issue,” Conte went on.

“But at the same time I think there is space to try to deal with the issue and try to solve the situation. Maybe [Alexis] Sánchez and [Mesut] Özil they are finishing their contracts with Arsenal and it is not simple but every club has to try solve the situations.”

Chelsea have been in good form since their loss to Roma in the Champions League winning back back games and Courtois haven'r conceded a goal since the Rome debacle.
