Boko Haram attacks Borno again; several dead, 10 abducted

- A vigilante member Musa Abdullahi was confirmed dead while several corpses were reportedly seen in bushes

- An unnamed former local council official in Gwoza confirmed the attack but said more details are awaited

- The Army and the police in Borno are however yet to confirm the attack

Some heavily-armed men believed to be members of the Boko Haram sect have again attacked Borno state.

The attack occurred on Saturday, November 4 at Ngoshe village in Gwoza local government area.

While local security officials confirmed one person dead, there were reports of corpses being seen in the bush villagers used as they tried to escape the attackers.

The assailants also abducted about ten villagers.

Premium Times quoted a chieftain of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Borno Abbas Gava as saying: “One of our personnel Musa Abdullahi was among those killed when some heavily armed Boko Haram insurgents attacked Ngoshe-Bayan-Dutse community.

“Some unknown number of corpses were left in the bush as villagers fled to mountain tops around Gwoza Local Government Area.

“By the report I received from one of our officials in Ngoshe, Hawa Bukar, who called me with a Cameroon registered phone number, at least ten persons were abducted and taken away by the Boko Haram, while some corpses were seen in the bush as the villagers were fleeing.”

An unnamed former council member of Gwoza local government area also confirmed the attack.

He said: “I wouldn’t want to pre-empt whatever those in charge are doing concerning the attack. But I can assure you that we have the correct hint that the attack actually took place, and we are still waiting for more information about the extent of damage done; especially the issue of casualties.”

The army and the police are yet to comment on this latest attack.

Meanwhile, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, President Muhammadu Buhari and the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saad have again been listed among the most powerful Muslims in the world.

Punch reports that this was contained in a Muslim publication, The Muslim 500 in its 2018 edition.
