A Federal High Court in Abuja has declared the suspension of Senator Ali Ndume as illegal and unconstitutional.

Justice Babatunde Quadri on Friday, November 10, held that the suspension of Ndume (APC, Borno South) for 90 legislative days is illegal.

The judge said the suspension “is a violation of his right to fair hearing and freedom of expression as guarranteed by sections 36 and 39 of the extant Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and Article 7(1) and 9(2) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights, 2004.”

Ndume had been suspended on Thursday, March 30, after he asked the red chambers to investigate a corruption case against Senate President, Bukola Saraki, which was published in some national dailies.

Speaking on the judgement, Senator Ndume says it will serve as a lesson to the Senate.

NAIJ.com checks however revealed that Ndume has already served out his suspension.

Meanwhile, Ndume is in fresh trouble as the Borno state House of assembly on Thursday, October 26, accused him of slapping its member representing Damboa constituency, Bukar Daja-Ali, at a political meeting in Maiduguri

A statement signed by the Speaker of Borno state House of Assembly, Abdulkareem Lawal, petitioned the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the matter.
