The headlines of mainstream Nigerian newspapers for Thursday, November 9, are focused on the the alleged $1.4million scam discovered in the defence ministry.
The Punch reports that there was controversy on Wednesday over a contract deal totalling $1.4m awarded by the Ministry of Defence for a United Nations project.
While an online report alleged that the Minister of Defence, Brig. Gen. Munir Dan-Ali, and three senior officials of the ministry were involved in a messy scandal, the Defence ministry spokesman, Col. Tukur Gusau, said the contract in question followed due process.

This Day reports that eleven persons were on Tuesday night shot dead by gunmen in Rim, Riyom local government area in Plateau state in an attack suspected to have been carried out by armed herdsmen.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state Police Command, Terna Tyopev, confirmed the incident on the phone Wednesday morning, saying the traders were returning from the market when they were gunned down.

The Guardian reports that the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris yesterday engaged the Senate in a verbal war regarding the legality or otherwise of the lawmakers’ probe of corruption allegations made against him by Senator Hamman Misau.

Idris who appeared in the company of his lawyer, Alex Izinyon, around 2:30 p.m., told the Senate committee headed by Francis Alimikhena that since the case for which the investigation was ordered was already in court, it would be subjudice for him to respond to any queries from the lawmakers.
He said he chose to appear before the committee because he needed to comply with the constitutional provisions which mandate him to honour invitations from the parliament.
