EFFC has not paid me my money - Ikoyi cash whistle-blower cries out

- A lawyer, Yakubu Galadima, claiming to represent the whistle-blower who alerted EFCC on the massive stash of money recovered in an apartment in Ikoyi, says his client has been abandoned by the EFCC

- He says the claims by the acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, that the whistle-blower had been paid is untrue

The whistle-blower who alerted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the massive stash of money recovered from an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos, has denied been paid the 5% of the recovered sum.

Yakubu Galadima, a lawyer who said he was representing the unnamed whistle-blower, faulted the claims by the EFCC that his client had been paid the 5 % for providing the information that led the discovery of the money, The Punch reports

The lawyer made the disclosure on Friday, November 10 when he spoke with journalists on the premises of the Lagos state High Court in Ikeja.

Galadima said the claims by the acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, that the whistle-blower had been paid was untrue.

He said his client had even been abandoned the the ant-graft commission.

“The EFCC does not even know the whereabouts of my client. He is presently living from hand to mouth having been abandoned by the commission,” Galadima said.

“We have written to the President and even to Magu himself and we have yet to get any form of response. I even sent Magu an SMS this morning debunking the allegation that my client has been paid; but as I speak, I have yet to get a response from him,”

The lawyer said he had already written a letter dated October 10, 2017, to President Muhammadu Buhari in this regard but had yet to get any response from the presidency.

Similarly, a Twitter user, Chidi Odinkalu has backed the claims by Yakubu Galadima that the whistle-blower was yet to be paid the 5 % for providing the information that led the discovery of the Ikoyi cash.

Odinkalu, who claimed to know the whistle-blower, stated that he (whistle-blower) has been despicably treated and has suffered serial detention in 3 different institutions.

NAIJ.com had reported that the EFCC said the young man who blew the whistle on the massive stash of money recovered from an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos, is now a millionaire.

The acting chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Magu, stated this in Vienna, Austria, on Thursday, November 9, the spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement.

Uwujaren said Magu spoke at the ongoing 7th session of the conference of states parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, The News Agency of Nigeri (NAN) reports.
