Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano state, has disclosed that N208 million had been spent by his administration, for the empowerment of 5,200 Masu Shayi (tea sellers) in the state, Punch reports.
The governor made the comments during the distribution of the items to the 5,200 tea sellers in 44 local government areas of Kano State, on Saturday, November 11.

NAIJ.com gathers that among the items were cartons of noodles, crates of eggs, spaghetti and bread, cocoa beverage, liquid and powdered milk, brown and white sugar, nylon and cups.
According to Ganduje, his administration had made history with the distribution of the items, which he described as a significant milestone.
The governor stated that the development would boost the economic potential of the tea sellers and their families, and further disclosed that each of the beneficiaries would be given the sum of N40,000 as take-off capital.
He stated: “We are empowering 5,200 tea sellers. We are empowering them because we want to increase their economic well-being. We are empowering you to improve the economy of Kano.
“We are empowering you to improve sanitation in your services; we are empowering you to improve the nutritional value of your services; we are empowering you because of the multiplying effects of this kind of programme.”
Ganduje stated that the tea sellers would be registered, and disclosed that all the distributed items were purchased from local traders.

In a related development, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Kano state government launched the first segment of the Ganduje Mass Economic Empowerment Programme (G-MEEP), covering 520 women and youth from across the state.
The beneficiaries were presented with grinding machines, sewing machines, spaghetti making tools, Masa/Kosai fryers and a working capital of N5, 000 each.
Ten beneficiaries were drawn each from the 36 rural local government areas, while 20 were selected from the eight metropolitan local councils.
