Former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, has described the death of Jide, the first son of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, as an irredeemable loss to the Tinubu’s.

In a statement on Friday, November 3, by his spokesperson, Prince Kassim Afegbua, the former military president said he was sad over the unfortunate incident, Nigerian Tribune reports.

According to him, he felt a sense of personal loss over the sad incident which usually tended to test one’s faith in Allah.

Babangida said: “As parents, our usual prayers have always been that our children should see our end so that they could give us befitting burial anytime Allah calls us home; and not the other way round. We cannot question Allah in his decision any time.

“It struck me with helpless awe to learn of the sudden death of your first son, Jide, on Tuesday, 31st, October 2017. I feel a sense of personal loss over this sad incident which usually tends to test our faith in Allah as we sojourn through life."

The former military president noted that though Tinubu lived a public life, he had never heard the names of his children mentioned in circles that are unbefitting of their training.

He said such decent upbringing and comportment were attributes that came with discipline, sound character, mutual respect and credibility, all of which the late Jide represented.

“A befitting solace will be to commit all others into the hands of the Almighty Allah to grant them long life, good health and assured future as they continue to grow from strength to strength.

“May the Almighty Allah comfort and console you. May He offer his protection and guard over the rest of the children and members of the family. May He grant you good health in your consistent efforts at helping to shape the destiny of the nation.

“On behalf of my family, please accept my hearty condolence at this moment of grief,” Babangida added.

Jide, 43, an accomplished lawyer, was said to have complained of chest pain before he collapsed and died from what was suspected to be a heart attack around 9pm on Tuesday, October 31.

The tragic news was kept secret because the APC national leader was in Abuja for the National Executive Committee meeting of his party.

Chairman of APC in Lagos state, Otunba Henry Ajomale, was the one who confirmed Jide’s death in a short statement sent to party members on Wednesday, November 1.

Tinubu, who spoke through his media aide, Tunde Rahman, said the 43-year-old Jide died of cardiac arrest.

In a statement by his aide, he described his son as a highly intelligent person with a vibrant personality and a zest for life.
