The academic activities of polytechnics in the country will be temporarily interrupted as the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has announced its decision to embark on an indefinite strike with effect from Monday, November 13, 2017.

The body arrived at the decision following a meeting of its National Executive Council which took place on Saturday, November 11, at the Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State, Channels TV reports.

ASUP president, Usman Dutse, and zone A coordinator, Kabiru Yunusa, told journalist shortly after the emergency meeting that the failure of the federal government to implement all the agreements it entered with the union since 2016 necessitated the strike action.

The union said it had no choice than to embark on an indefinite strike after the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum issued earlier to the government.

The officials said they had given government sufficient time to implement all agreements and have resorted to strike as the last resort.
