These days, Nigerian news outlets are talking about Diezani Alison-Madueke and various accusations against her. We want to break the pattern and talk a little bit more about Diezani Alison Madueke husband for a change. Continue reading to find out who Allison Madueke is and what is known of him.
Who is Diezani Alison-Madueke?
Diezani Alison-Madueke (born Diezani K. Agama) is a famous yet controversial figure in Nigerian politics. Born on December 6, 1960, she has managed to get a lot of ‘firsts’ to her name. For instance, she was the first female Minister of Transportation, Minister of Petroleum Resources, board member of Shell Petroleum Development Company, as well as President of OPEC.
With her example, she showed many women that they too can try their hand at entering the male-dominated spheres of life.
But here is the thing:
Madueke’s positive example was marred by the fact that she allegedly stole and laundered large sums of money while she occupied one of her various important positions. At one point, she was even arrested for her crimes against the country, so she fled to Great Britain. It seems like she remains there to this day, both hiding from justice and trying to fight cancer.
That said, we are not here to add to the news about Diezani’s misdeeds. Let’s talk about her husband instead.
Who is Allison Madueke?
Allison Amaechina Madueke is the husband of Diezani Alison-Madueke. It is not exactly clear when Allison was born. All we know is that it was in 1944. Madueke is Igbo, and his place of birth was Agbariji-Inyi, Enugu State.
He spent his youth in England, where he went to School of Maritime Operations in Southwick and Britannia Royal College in Dartmouth. In addition to that, Madueke also became a member of two military institutions in London (Royal Institute of Navigation and Nautical Institute).
Allison Madueke has a few honorary degrees under his belt, such as Science degrees from the Enugu State University of Technology and the University of Nigeria, and a degree in Law from the Abia State University.
When he turned 20, Madueke went to the Nigerian Defence Academy, which he graduated three years later. After that, he became the Naval Attaché at the Nigerian embassy in Washington, United States. When the military coup happened in Nigeria, Allison, who was then a Navy Captain, became the governor of Anambra State.

He held that position for about a year and a half (January 1984 — August 1985). Then Ibrahim Babangida replaced Muhammadu Buhari on the post of the Head of State and appointed Madueke to occupy the post of the governor of Imo State. Just like before, Madueke’s governance did not last long, and in 1986, he left his post.
A few years later, Allison received a promotion and became a Rear Admiral. Between 1993 and 1994, he was the Chief of Naval Staff under the General Sani Abacha. However, his appointment was not long lasting, and in 1994, he was sacked.
After his retirement, Allison went on to become the Chairman of such organisations as Kovidal Ltd., Radam Maritime Services Ltd., Interconnect Clearinghouse and Board of Trustees of the National ICT Merit Awards. In addition to this, he also became a board member at Excel E&P (Marginal Oil Fields) Ltd., Image Consultants Ltd., Solid Rock Securities and Investments Ltd., and Regalia Nigeria Ltd. In 2008, Allison Madueke joined the Nigerian Stock Exchange’s Council.
Sometime in the 90s, he married his first wife. Little is known about her, apart from the fact that she died from cancer. In 1999, he married Diezani K. Agama who we have already mentioned. Many sources say that all of his five children (Ngozi, Chima, Ugonna, Donald and Chimezie) are from Allison’s first marriage. However, some also claim that Chimezie is actually Diezani’s own son.
Knowing that Madueke’s first wife died of cancer, we cannot help but feel sorry for him. After all, it must be hard to watch his second wife suffer from the same disease.
Scandals surrounding the Maduekes
You might be surprised, but Diezani and Allison have quite a lot in common, apart from the obvious things. We know we have said that we would not add to the topic of controversies around Diezani, but this is important.
If you have been closely following Diezani Madueke and her activities in the past few years, you are probably aware that she has been involved in quite a few scandals. To name a few, Diezani Alison-Madueke was accused of diverting $6 billion away from the national treasury, costing NNPC over $2 billion and recklessly spending the money of the government.
The thing is, Diezani Alison-Madueke husband is not much better. Of course, his crimes were on a much smaller scale. It is not surprising, as he has never held as much power in his hands as his wife has. Nevertheless, just like his dear wife, he was arrested for money laundering last year. According to the EFCC reports, Mr. Madueke managed to launder more than $600,000 through his bank accounts.
As of now, it seems that Diezani’s crimes are still being investigated, while her husband’s name has not appeared in the press for quite a while now. At this point, we just have to wait and see how it all ends.
That is all we can tell you about the Maduekes. They both have led fascinating and full lives, and something tells us that we have not heard the last of them yet. After all, it looks like Diezani has gotten herself into quite a situation that is not going to be resolved any time soon. Despite that, we hope that her husband supports her no matter what. In sickness and in health, right?
