- Robert Mugabe, the president of Zimbabwe, has steered another controversy with the sacking of his deputy
- The government says Emmerson Mnangagwa was sacked allegedly for disloyalty and other issues
- Reports say that he was actually fired to pave way for Grace to succeed Mugabe, her husband
In what is believed to be a move to install his wife, Grace, President Robert Mugabe has fired his deputy, Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was earlier believed to be his likely successor.
The UK Guardian reports that the decision to fire Emmerson Mnangagwa followed claims of his alleged disloyalty, disrespect and deceit by Zimbabwe’s information minister, Simon Khaya Moyo.
With Mnangagwa now out of the way, Grace is likely to be Mugabe’s successor as president of the country.

Mugabe, 93 years old, has ruled for 37 years with the country now running into economic stress and calls for him to relinquish power.
Moyo said the 75-year-old Mnangagwa, who was a former intelligence boss, was not loyal.
The report however said Grace might face a serious task with the people because of her image which has suffered in recent times.
It is learnt that Mnangagwa has more acceptance both within and internationally.
Mnangagwa was allegedly earlier poisoned in August, 2017, and Grace publicly denied any involvement.
