- N'Golo Kante named French Player of the Year for 2017

- Kante beat Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema to the award

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has been named French Player of the Year for 2017 by France Football magazine.

Kante finished ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, who were second and third respectively.

The former Leicester City man received a total of 92 votes.

Kante took the prestigious award following a vote among previous winners - including 2016 winner Antoine Griezmann, France boss Didier Deschamps and ex-UEFA president Michel Platini - as well as the current editor in chief of France Football.

The 26-year-old add the accolade to the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards won at the end of last season having played an integral role as Chelsea were crowned Premier League champions.

Kante finished eighth in the Ballon d'Or behind record-equalling winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

He also also took out Chelsea's Players' Player of the Year award last season.
