Police restrict movement in Akwa Ibom ahead of council polls

- The Nigeria Police Force has announced the restriction of movement in Akwa Ibom state

- The police said the move is ensure a hitch free local government area council election

- The restriction of movement would begin from 12 midnight on Friday, December 1, to 4 pm of Saturday, December 2

The Nigeria Police Force on Thursday, November 30, ordered the restriction of movement in Akwa Ibom state in preparation for the forthcoming council election in the state.

The police order is coming 48 hours to the election scheduled to begin from 12 midnight on Friday, December 1, to 4 pm of Saturday, December 2.

The police spokesperson for the Akwa Ibom state command, Bala Elkana in a statement issued in Uyo said only individuals on essential duties with valid identification cards would be allowed during the election period.

The Akw Ibom police also assured members of the public that the command has put in place adequate security measures to ensure a hitch free local government election in the state.

“Movement of persons and vehicles across the state will be restricted from 12 midnight of Friday December 1, 2017 to 4 pm of Saturday December 2, 2017 except personnel on essential duties who must carry their valid identification cards.

“Akwa Ibom state police wishes to inform the general public that the command has put in place adequate security measures for peaceful Local Government Election across the 31 local government areas.

“To that effect, the command is deploying 15, 000 Policemen to all the polling units, collation centers and flash points," Bala said.

He also warned that violators of the restriction of movement order would be dealt with in accordance with the Law.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, said President Muhammadu Buhari's commitment to fight corruption helped him gain respect nationally and internationally.

Bello said Nigeria's economy has witnessed stability under the APC-led federal government.

He said such stability and feats by the President Buhari-led administration will help the APC win election in Nigeria.
