How to change channel name via YouTube account settings
You can always select any name from your Google Account and make it the name of your YT channel. Here is how it works:
- Log in to YT account.
- Press on the ‘gear’ image on the upper right corner of the page and choose YouTube Settings.
- Look under ‘Overview’ menu. Here you should see an option ‘Edit on Google’ (there is also ‘Advanced’ feature and your current channel name). It should be available right near the icon and name of your YT channel. Press on it to proceed.
- Just update the name (enter a new name or apply changes to your current one by hovering the mouse over it and clicking on ‘Click to edit your name’) and it will be automatically changed on YouTube and GA.
When you enter two words in the two fields you will get a channel name that consists of two separate words.
If you only need one word, just enter it into the first field and ignore the second option. Press ‘Save’ and then ‘Change name’ to apply your new settings.

How to change channel name via URL on YouTube
Besides using the name chosen for the Google Account of yours through Settings, you can create a different title for your channel directly through YT. Would you like to apply such changes?
- Launch your channel.
- Your name is displayed under the YT art (cover image on the top of the page). But you should press on YT Settings and get to the ‘Overview’ page.
- Click on ‘Advanced’ option this time.
- Choose the option ‘Create custom URL’ (this feature might not be available to new channels that don’t have any subscribers).
- You are asked to enter your custom name that will be shown in your URL (YT channel address). You can type letters (both uppercase and lowercase) and numbers.
- The site will quickly check if your URL name is available or not. In case such address already exists you will be asked to enter a new name or choose one from the list of available options.
- When you are happy with the new URL name, you can press on ‘Create channel URL’ and you will see the new link for your YT channel.
P.S. When you are adding changes to your YT URL, the chosen name will not be automatically applied as your channel name under the cover page. This name can be changed through Google+ which you can access via YT Settings described above. There is one more method you can try.
- You can see the new option that says ‘Return name to…’ It means you are allowed to turn off your Google+ profile and use your name from URL as your YT channel title. Isn’t it awesome? Remember to click on ‘OK’ to save these changes.
Don’t worry about your videos. They won’t disappear. Your Google+ account will still exist and have its original name. However, your YT channel will have the changed name in both URL and title of your channel which will be no longer connected directly to your Google+ page.
