- The Benue state government has upped the bounty for anyone who could assist in the capture of alleged criminal Gana
- The information commissioner, Lawrence Onoja, says the bounty has been increased from N10 million to N50 million
- He issues warning to those using sirens in the state to henceforth desist from it
The Benue state government headed by Samuel Ortom has increased the ransom it pledged to give anyone with useful information that could lead to the arrest of Terwase Akwaza, alias Gana, from N10 million to N50 million.
This was confirmed by the information commissioner, Lawrence Onoja, on Thursday, February 1, in Makurdi after the state security council meeting.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Onoja said the increment in the ransom was due largely to renewed criminal activities allegedly perpetrated by the wanted suspect and his cohorts in Sankera axis of the state.

According to the commissioner, the emergency lines would be made public in no distant time to enable the public supply information concerning him to security agencies.
Onoja further said the council also directed security agencies to arrest any vehicle that had its number plate covered, including government vehicles.
NAIJ.com learnt that the commissioner added that it was only traditional rulers that were allowed to cover their number plates just for a time being to enable them to do new ones.
He warned people not supposed to use sirens to desist forthwith as anyone violating the law would be sanctioned stating further that the use of revolving lights on vehicles remained banned in the state with immediate effect.
Onoja warned cultists to refrain from the act because laws that forbade the practice were in force and anyone caught would be dealt with decisively.
He revealed that the seven persons killed recently in Gboko local government area of the state were not herdsmen as speculated, adding that their murderers were pure criminals.

He noted that the council sympathised with the families of the deceased and prayed God to console them.
The commissioner further appealed to Benue people not to take laws into their hands but obey the laws of the land, stressing that anybody taking laws into his or her hand would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
NAIJ.com earlier reported how the commissioner of police in Benue, Fatai Owoseni, recently revealed how Terwase Akwaza, popularly called Gana allegedly took advantage of the crisis in the state to launch attacks on communities.
Owoseni made the revelation on Monday, January 29, saying normalcy had been restored in all the communities attacked by herdsmen and appealed to residents to stop fleeing their homes.
