Coalition for Nigeria: Oyinlola speaks about how money will be generated for new groups

- Olagunsoye Oyinlola said the newly formed Coalition for Nigeria is to redeem the nation

- He said the movement needed to act fast ahead of the 2019 election

- Chief Olusegun Obasanjo had called for the formation of a coalition to take power from the APC and PDP

Former governor, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has said that youths in the country will be the ones in charge of the Coalition for Nigeria.

The group was formed after former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, wrote a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari asking him not to recontest in 2019.

Obasanjo had also called for a coalition to displace the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He had written: “We need a Coalition for Nigeria, CN. Coalition to salvage and redeem our country. You can count me with such a movement. Coalition for Nigeria must have its headquarters in Abuja."

Oyinlola who spoke at the launching of the coalition said there is need to run fast and ensure that the movement is carried to the nooks and crannies” of the country.

The aims and objectives of the coalition make it mandatory for us to hit the ground running. Time is not on our side; if we are going to effect the aims of the coalition, we must run fast," he added.

The former governor said the desire of the movement is to see a new Nigeria saying the old ones will serve as guardian angels.

We are trying to be like guardian angels; it is you that must decide who is to do what and at what level. That is why we are having this meeting today and putting it back to you," he stated.

Oyinlola said individual persons will not bring money to the movement but that “everybody will contribute in order to avoid one person controlling and dictating the affairs of the movement."

Donald Duke in his reaction noted that politicians were able to crisscross from one party to the other because Nigeria only had platforms.

He said: “What they are doing is seeking office not implementing a thought. But we also aware that a new generation is at vanguard of taking over and why our own generation is stepping back as Governor Oyinlola said.

The new vanguard will lead but we step back and perhaps guide and share our experiences which may serve as guide to the new generation.”

NAIJ.com had reported that barely two weeks after former president Olusegun Obasanjo dismissed the ruling APC and the PDP and advocated for the formation of Coalition for Nigeria Movement, a movement was on Wednesday, January 31, launched at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.

The coalition was quick to dismiss insinuation that it was rolling out Obasanjo’s script, adding that it is an independent movement aimed at moving Nigeria forward.
