Nigerian youths need to believe in the potentials that abound in Africa, President Muhammadu Buhari has said.
Buhari made the statement on Wednesday, February 7, at the opening ceremony of the African Wrestling Championships at the Alfred Diete Spiff Civic Centre in Port Harcourt, Vanguard reports
The minister of youth and sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, who represented the president said sports is the only tool that can unite and promote peace and coexistence among Africans.
“Africa remains the bride of the next civilization. Therefore, we must exploit the potentials of sports to create jobs, to entertain our people, to promote peaceful coexistence, to improve on tourism and promote the health, wellbeing of our nation. Investing in sports is the next step Africa must look into.”

“This is an opportunity to showcase the very rich talents you possess. This championship will afford you the opportunity to excel because athletes who will be competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be produced here. Therefore, I urge you to compete fairly and honestly and ensure that the benefits accruing from this competition remain the ultimate goal for all.”
The president said there was no better place than Africa, adding that there are great potentials on the African continent.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has promised to take another look at the appointments made by his administration with a view to addressing complaints of marginalisation raised by some ethnic groups in the country.
Buhari made the statement on Thursday, February 8, when he received a group of Catholic bishops led by Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama at the presidential villa.
The president said the review will be done after a compendium of all appointments has been submitted to him. He told the clerics that no ethnic group or political zone has been deliberately marginalised in the appointments made so far by his administration.
