- Gernot Rohr's men will battle Serbia at the Hive Stadium in London on Tuesday, March 27 as they continue their build up to the 2018 World Cup
Nigeria’s Super Eagles greeted their 2018 World Cup kit with a slim win over Poland at the Municipal Stadium, WrocÅ‚aw on Friday, March 24, 2018.
Chelsea wing back Victor Moses scored the only goal from the spot to power the three-time African champions to their first win over the polish side in their first ever meeting.
However, the victory would not be possible if not for the excellent performances of some players, who may have confirmed their spots in Gernot Rohr’s final team list for the global championship going down this summer.

Meanwhile, the triumph will put them (Nigeria) in a good mood ahead of their second test game against Serbia at the Hive Stadium in London on Tuesday, March 27, as they continue their superb build up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup staging in Russia this summer.
Here are the few things we learnt from the Poland vs Nigeria international friendly match
- The Goal
Victor Moses grabbed the only goal of the game after converting a spot kick in the 61st minute of the encounter.
The Chelsea winger drove past two Poland defenders before been brought down by Marcin Kaminski in the box, and he sent the goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski the other way to score his 11th international goal.
Although, he seemed a little exhausted in the game owing to the numerous Premier League games has been involved in the last couple of months.
- Francis Uzoho
The teenage goalkeeper was handed his first start by head coach Gernot Rohr, and he seemed to have passed the test to a large extent, having had to make superb saves – most especially against world class strikers like Robert Lewandowski.

He obviously was nervous in the early minutes of the game, but the Deportivo La Coruna shot stopper was able to stablise himself to keep the Polish team from finding the back of the net despite after 90 minutes.
Uzoho made key saves all through the game, which includes a crucial save in the second half to deny Poland captain Robert Lewandowski, but the 19-year-old must definitely work on his positioning and decision-making, which almost sold him off in some parts of the game.
- The ‘Oyinbo Wall’
The duo of Leon Balogun and Willian Troost-Ekong did not disappoint once again as they neutralized threats from Bayern Munich goal poacher, Lewandowski all through the game
- Troost-Ekong
What a night for the Bursaspor defender to captained the Super Eagles as they recorded a win and a clean sheet in their build up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament this June.
The 24-year-old made some critical decisions on the pitch and one of them was that goal-line clearances in the later part of the first stanza of the game.
Leon Balogun maintains his good partnership with Troost-Ekong as they both worked together to ensure they didn't lose to Poland in front of their fans.
- Wilfred Ndidi
The Leicester City defensive midfielder is no doubt Nigeria’s best player at the moment, as he was all over the place with timely tackles for the entire 90 minute.
Ndidi was earlier this year rated the best Premier League tackler with almost 100% win rate with aerial balls, and again, he showed why he merited that tag.
- Brian Idowu
The Amkar Perm defender also earned his first start with Nigeria in that encounter, and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
Having impressed for the entire game, he may also have beaten Elderson Echiejile and Ola Aina to the left back position.
Brian scored in his debut for the Super Eagles when Nigeria defeated Argentina in Russia late last year, and the defender will definitely be a player to watch out for when the World Cup kicks off this summer.
Meanwhile, this victory means that the Eagles under the German born handler have lost just one game since his arrival in 2016 in all competitions – winning eight, and drawing three.
