Amaechi inaugurates new governing boards of 5 agencies, says FG will be strict on acts of corruption

- The board of five agencies under the ministry of transportation has been inaugurated

- Members of the board were officially inaugurated by the minister of transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi

- Amaechi urged them to shun acts of corruption in the discharge of their duties

The minister of transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, has inaugurated the governing board of five agencies under the ministry, charging them to work in line with the policy direction of the Federal Government and shun acts of corruption.

The minister performed the inauguration of the five agencies at the Office of the Secretary of the Federation (OSGF) on Friday, March 9 in Abuja.

The boards of the agencies inaugurated are:

1. Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC)

1. Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN)

2. Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology (NITT)

3. Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC)

4. National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and

5. Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarders in Nigeria (CRFFN)

The minister used the occasion to remind the boards of their roles of setting operational and administrative policies for their respective agencies, in line with government policy direction.

“We expect them to perform their responsibilities; the ministry will not oversee them unnecessarily.

“We will play a supervisory role, but we will want to make sure that there is peace.

“Nigerians don’t want to hear stories; they want us to deliver, so we expect the boards to deliver in that line

“We know that there are challenges but they have to deliver on their mandate,” Amaechi told journalists after the event.

Responding on behalf of those inaugurated, Vice Admiral Ishaya Ibrahim, Chairman Governing Board of NIWA, appreciated the Federal Government for giving them the opportunity to serve the country.

He stated that the boards would deliver on their mandate in line with the anti-corruption stance of the present administration.

“We want the president to know that we accept to key into his struggle to take this nation to greater heights,” he said.

Speaking to journalists after the event, Ademola Seriki, Chairman Governing Board of MAN, said the board would understudy the situation on ground at the agency, through the Interim Management Committee (IMC) and work with it.

He expressed his readiness to work with the members and staff of MAN to develop the academy and to meet international standard.

NAIJ.com gathered that the members of the governing boards will be strictly guided by a Federal Government circular issued by the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, as a measure to reduce the cost of governance.

Meanwhile, Amaechi recently said the Federal Government is doing everything possible to reverse the unemployment rate in the country.

The minister made the comment when a delegation from Dudley College of Technology, United Kingdom in partnership with the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Abuja.

His words: “The government of Nigeria is doing everything possible to eradicate unemployment, we are creating jobs and engaging the youth at various levels of skills acquisition. We have improved on our railway transportation and you can imagine the number of youth that have been engaged in the project, same thing in other sectors."
