Arsenal target World Cup winning coach as Arsene Wenger's replacement

Premier League campaigners Arsenal are reportedly lining up a summer move for Germany coach, Joachim Low, as Arsene Wenger’s replacement according to ESPN.

The 58-year-old tactician led his country to the FIFA 2014 World Cup triumph in Brazil after beating Argentina 1-0 in the extra time of the final encounter.

Three years later, he won the FIFA Confederation Cup title in Russia last year with a relatively young German team, and the Gunners are hoping they can land the former Austria Wien manager this summer.

Other candidates on the Gunners wish list are Monaco coach, Leonardo Jardim and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, but ESPN FC believes Low would be the preferred candidate to replace Wenger should a change be made.

Meanwhile, the north London club have just one shot at returning to Champions League football next season – and it is by winning the Europa League title this season, having dropped out of the top four teams on the EPL table.

Although, the Frenchman has a running contract with the Emirates Stadium outfit until the summer of 2019, but will likely be replaced if his team continue to churn out poor result for the remainder of the season.

Arsenal will battle AC Milan in the first leg of their Europa League encounter at the San Siro on Thursday, March 8, and they will be hoping they can return to winning ways for the first time after recording four straight defeats in all competitions in the last few weeks.

Low, who became the German national team coach in 2006 has a running contract with the country, and might cost the Gunners some stress to secure the signature of the 58-year-old.

However, if Wenger leaves Arsenal this summer, chief executive Ivan Gazidis will spearhead the search for his replacement, having overseen the appointments of several key figures in recent months.

The players are reportedly tired of Wenger according to reports on ESPN, saying his tactics are no longer productive, and they are hoping the club will hire the likes of Henry Thierry, Carlo Ancelotti or even Newcastle United coach, Rafael Benitez.

"A lot of the players don't want Wenger," the source said. "They are not happy with his tactics and the training.

"The players don't want any particular manager to come in -- some speak about Thierry Henry, Carlo Ancelotti and even Rafa Benitez -- but they are really frustrated.

"A lot of them are also unhappy about the sale of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United. Alexis could be difficult at times, but the players think it sent the wrong message to sell him to a rival."

Arsenal are presently 6th on the log with 45 points - just 15 points ahead of relegation zone, and they will be battling Serie A side, AC Milan on Thursday, March 8 in the first leg of their Europa League encounter in Italy.
