Troops of the 707 Special Forces Brigade currently taking part in the operation Ayem Akpatuma, have arrested at least 12 suspected herdsmen reportedly engaged in the destruction of farmlands in Benue state on the 17 March 2018.
The arrest of the herdsmen was made in a statement by Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, the director of public relations of the Nigerian Army.

“Troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade presently taking part in the EX AYEM AKPATUMA have arrested another 12 herdsmen engaged in the destructive activities on the farmlands on the 17 March 2018.
“The suspects were arrested during the visit of the Presidential Assessment Team to MBAYER/YANDEV and KAAMBEE wards of Benue state.
“On search of the general area 2 motorcycles were recovered from the suspects. The 12 herdsmen were handed over to the police for further action. Troops continue to maintain vigilance and dominant the general area with patrols,” the statement said.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade, during their routine patrol, apprehended six herdsmen who were caught destroying a farmland in Kwata Sule.
In a statement by Brigadier General Texas Chukwu who is the director, army public relations, the herdsmen were apprehended on Saturday, March 17.
NAIJ.com also reported that the defence headquarters, on Saturday, March 17, assured citizens that the troops of the Nigerian Army and other services deployed in Exercise Ayem Akpatuma, also known as Cat Race, were on the alert to arrest the killer herdsmen ravaging Plateau, Kogi and other surrounding states.

The director of defence information, John Agim, said this in a message to The Punch while answering a question on whether new deployments had been made to deal with fresh herdsmen’s violence in the north-central and middle belt states.
