The crisis is coming despite the Exercise Ayema Akpatuma launched by the Nigerian Army to curtail the series of violent clashes in Middle Belt states including Taraba.

However, security personnel have been drafted to the area to bring the situation under control.

Efforts to get an official position from the state police command and the chairman of the local government proved abortive.

Meanwhile, the Taraba state police command has vowed to enforce the anti-open grazing law in the state, threatening that any violator will face the wrath of the law.

The law was enacted last year and was officially effected on Tuesday, January 24, amidst protests by herdsmen in the state.

In his reaction to alleged extortion and maltreatment of herdsmen by police in some areas following the commencement of the law’s implementation, the police spokesman in the state, David Misal, on Tuesday, January 30, said that the police would be fair to all.
