Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has backed Arsene Wenger to overcome the present situation at Arsenal, following his side's 3-0 victory at the Emirates.

Wenger's side have lost five of their last seven matches, and twice at the hands of City within the space of four days.

Guardiola, who has lost on three out of the 14 meetings against Wenger, heaped praise on his opposite number and believes he has what it takes to help the steer the north London club out of trouble.

"We play, we fight many, many times in Barcelona, a lot of times in Bayern Munich, a lot of times here in Premier League. A lot of times.

"I can understand the situation. I know all the managers can be in that situation. He knows, he handles that situation. He has a lot of experience.

"He knows the club, he knows the Premier League, he knows his players. And I'm sure he's going to take the right decision, for the club, for him, for the players, for everybody."

Arsenal slipped 10 points further from the top four and their only means of playing Champions League football next season is if they win the Europa League.

Wenger signed a two-year extention with the Emirates outfit and rumours are gathering momentum that the Frenchman should end his 22-year reign at the club.

Arsenal will be visiting Brighton at the weekend in a Premier League encounter as the Gunners will be looking to pick themselves back up after a difficult week.
