What Buhari should have done to IGP Idris for refusing to stay in Benue - Stan-Labo

- Colonel Hassan Stan-Labo said President Buhari should have terminated IGP Idris Ibrahim's appointment for failing to stay in Benue state as ordered

- Stan-Labo said apart from visiting states affected by herdsmen crisis, President Buhari needs to take more actions

Colonel Hassan Stan-Labo, while reacting to President Muhammadu Buhari's statement in Benue state, said the president ought to terminate Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris's appointment immediately for flouting his order.

Stan-Labo, in an interview on Channels TV, said President Buhari needs to do more to combat herdsmen activities than visiting the states affected by the area.

He said: “The president as the commander-in-chief of the Federal Republic is the State. He is the State. The president should, therefore, bring to bear on governance generally.

“If I was the commander in Chief, in his (Buhari) position. As I am telling you that I am surprised he never went, I will immediately be announcing his retirement asking the next fellow to remain in the acting capacity until I appoint another Inspector General.”

“It will send a message down that you are a serious President."

Stan-Labo, however, suggested that the military take over the security of states affected by herdsmen crisis, while claiming the police are overwhelmed by the crisis.

He said: “The police is not wired to carry out some of the functions assigned to them. I don’t see what the police are doing in Benue, running around in the forest.

“Giving what is going on, we know the police is overwhelmed. The police is got a huge manpower deficit which goes in tandem with its capacity deficiency and so on.

“The task in Benue, Taraba and so on are fully military tasks.”

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the troops of the 707 Special Forces Brigade currently taking part in the operation Ayem Akpatuma, have arrested at least 12 suspected herdsmen reportedly engaged in the destruction of farmlands in Benue state on the 17 March 2018.

The arrest of the herdsmen was made in a statement by Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, the director of public relations of the Nigerian Army.
