A Video Assisted Referee (VAR) aided penalty in the second half was all that Sweden needed to pip South Korea Republic 1-0 in the Group F opener at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Monday.
The match referee Joel Aguilar from El Salvador initially missed the call earlier on, but after a second look by on the monitor, he revised his decision to award the penalty.

Sweden’s Andreas Granqvist stepped up and converted nicely from the spot.
Earlier on in the first half, the European side created series of opportunity in the first hand but failed to convert the numerous chances that came their way.
Also, in the second half Sweden continued from where they stopped but the goal failed to come until the crucial moment when the goal arrived.
The encounter also saw South Korea defender Park Joo-ho was stretchered off during the match too.
The 31-year-old was injured while gunning for the ball in the 27th minute of the match.
After the goal from the spot, Sweden held on to claim another their first World Cup Group game victory for the first time since 1958 and extended their unbeaten run at this stage to ten games.
On the other hand, the Victory handed Sweden 3 points and moves them on level with Mexico at the top of Group F.
