Defending champions Germany faced their first World Cup opening match defeat since loosing 2-1 to Algeria back in 1982, thanks to a tough-as-nails display from Mexico on Sunday, June 17.
El Tri managed to get the best of Die Mannschaft through a brilliant display of counter-attacking football that managed to dismantle the Germans and catch them flatfooted.
According to the Guardian, head coach Joachim Low described his side's performance as negligent and haphazard saying the next game was a must win for the defending champions of 2014.

"The next game is vital for us, we have to win it," Low said.
On the other hand, Mexico coach Juan Carlo Osorio was thrilled with the turn of events, paying credit to the diligent planning on exploiting Germany's weak points and using his teams sheer blitz.
"We had plans six months ago to have two quick players on the wings, We chose Hirving Lozano, our quickest player, and Miguel Layun, an offensive midfield player," Osorio said.

Osorio said his team focused on hitting the Germans with counter attacks having practiced holding the back with four defenders and allowing three players to remain up front.
"For the players today the phrase was to play for the love of winning and not the fear of losing. and that is what exactly what they did. They played with real bravery," he said.
The German coach was quite disappointed at the turn of events and openly admitted that he had gravely underestimated Mexico.

"It's very disappointing and very usual, in so many tournaments before we won the first game. But we have to deal with that. In the next match we have to do much better," he said.
Low's men will now be up against Sweden in their next Group F game on Saturday, June 23.
