President Goodluck Jonathan has been described as a hero of democracy by Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president of Nigeria.
Atiku disclosed this on Wednesday, June 20, during a courtesy call on President Jonathan at his country home in Otuoke, Bayelsa state, Vanguard reports.
The former vice president lauded Jonathan for his decision to hand over the reins of power without qualms. He also observed that that the historic decision set him apart as a democrat of unimpeachable credentials.

“I want to say without equivocation that history will be very kind to you. As the democrat that I have always been, I want to say you have truly excelled. If you did not excel as a democrat par excellence, I wonder what the situation in Nigeria would be today,” Abubakar said.
In his response, Jonathan commended Atiku for appointing former Governor of Ogun state, Gbenga Daniel, as director general of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that Nigeria's former President Goodluck Jonathan and former vice president Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday, June 20, expressed optimism that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would return to power in 2019.
