Egypt talisman Mohamed Salah got a giant cake from Chechnya fans to celebrate his birthday in Russia.

The 26-year-old was benched in the Pharaoh's 1-0 loss to Uruguay in their Group A opener.

Hector Cuper did not want to risk the Liverpool star man for the match against the South America power house but will be unleashed in their next game against Russia.

However Salah was in good spirits as he sang 'happy birthday' with his team after turning 26 on Friday and was presented with the gigantic cake by the Russians.

The cake weighed a whopping 100kg in weight and with a big golden boot atop, it was a nice touch from the hosts as they surprised the forward as he was entering a foyer.

The celebrations were understandably subdued after Egypt had lost earlier to an 89th minute header from Uruguay's Jose Gimenez.

Salah blew out some of the candles on the cake, but appeared to feel a little awkward before he and the teammates moved on.

The former Roma attacker has been recovering from a shoulder injury that originally seemed would rule him out the World Cup.

But after their opening day defeat to Uruguay, the ex-Chelsea star will almost certainly start their next game against the hosts as they will going all out for maximum points.

They will be locking horns with hosts, Russia, who thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0 to kick off the tournament last week in emphatic fashion.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Russia walloped Middle East side, Saudi Arabia in the opening match of the competition.

Gazinskiy and Cheryshev scored a goal each in the first half while Dzyuba, Cheryshev and Golovin completed the rout in the second 45 minutes.
