We have successfully degraded Boko Haram, terrorist group no longer have territories here - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, June 21, again insisted that his government has successfully degraded the terrorist group, Boko Haram, and that the latter is no longer holding any part of the country as its territory.

NAIJ.com reports that before 2015, the sect had held some parts of the north-eastern Nigeria hostage destroying communities and taking over villages as their caliphates. But Buhari said this is no longer the case three years into his administration.

Channels Television reports that the president stated this in Abuja, the nation’s capital, at the 2018 World Congress of the International Press Institute.

“Your annual congress is holding in Nigeria during a period of global terrorism. Nigeria experiences that scourge through Boko Haram which has been technically degraded and has no territorial hold anywhere anymore in its North-East operational base,” Buhari said.

Buhari added: “Internally displaced persons are gradually returning to their communities in reasonable safety and security.”
