The Kaduna state High Court, on Wednesday, July 11, has adjourned the hearing on the bail application of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky till August of 2018.
The court fixed August 2 after El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, were arraigned by the state government.
Channels TV reports that the Shiite leader and his wife were charged with eight counts bordering on culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disturbance of public peace, among other allegations.
This is the second time that El-Zakzaky's bail application hearing would be adjourned as he was previously arraigned on May 15, 2018 but the court adhourned June 21. The judge was absent in court on June 21 and the hearing was again adjourned till today, July 11.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com earlier reported that the member of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) the umbrella body of the Shi’ite Islamic sect and other urban gangs operating in Kaduna state risk seven years jail term that is due to a new order signed by governor Mallam Nasir el-Rufai.
The Kaduna, solicitor-general, Chris Umar on Tuesday, July 4, said the unlawful societies declaration order, 2018, was aimed at promoting public safety and to uphold law and order in the state.
