The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the appointment of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick as the first vice president of Africa’s soccer-governing body.
This was revealed in a letter of appointment dated July 5 and signed by CAF’s General Secretary Amr Fahmy, following consultations with eggheads of CAF Emergency Committee, Mr. Pinnick was confirmed as a replacement for Kwesi Nyatakyi who resigned from his position as CAF first Vice President.

‘’Following the resignation of the 1st Vice President, Mr Kwesi Nyantaky, CAF President, after consulting the members of the Emergency Committee, appointed Mr Amaju Melvin Pinnick as 1st Vice President.
“This decision is immediately applicable, in accordance with article 27 para 2 of the Statutes, which will be ratified by the Executive Committee in its session scheduled on the 27 ad 28 September 2018. We thank you for kindly taking note,” the letter reads in part.
The latest appointment has positioned Amaju Pinnick as the most powerful football administrator within the West Africa as well as second most powerful in the continent.
Previously, the former Delta FA boss was at the helm of affairs of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) committee that take charge of preparations for CAF’s premium tournament.
Also, Pinnick is at the head of CAF’s Media committee as well as a member of the Organising Committee of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia where he has taken charge of World Cup games.

Interestingly, former CAF President Issa Hayatou had previously headed the last AFCON committee before Pinnick came on board.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Amaju Pinnick has been told by the Federal Government to step down from his current position as Nigeria's football chief.
In a statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sports Minister Solomon Dalung ordered eggheads of the football house to respected the orders of the Federal High Court setting aside the election of NFF's Executive Committee held on September 30, 2014 which brought in Amaju Pinnick.
