Police finally vacate Ekiti government house ahead of governorship election

Ahead of the governorship election slated for Saturday, July 14, in Ekiti, men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Thursday, July 12, finally vacated the state’s government house, days after Ayodele Fayose raised an alarm.

Daily Independent reports that the policemen had occupied the government house for two days, one of which reportedly caused chaos between Fayose and the law enforcement agency.

The report said the vacation of the government house by the police had reduced tension in the state ahead of the exercise.

The report also said the security personnel also vacated the campaign office of the state’s deputy governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kolapo Olusola-Eleka.

The report said supporters of the governor had thronged the government house for the greater part of the day demanding to see him and be sure he is safe.

Aides of Fayose reportedly had a hard time calming the supporters and informing them that he was fine.

Olusola-Eleka also informed the supporters that the governor was regaining consciousness. He urged the supporters to go about their activities peacefully and refrain from taking the law into their hands.

The report further quoted the media aide to the governor, Idowu Adelusi, as saying there were arrangements to allow workers go to their towns and villages to be able to effectively participate in the exercise.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that former president, Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday, July 11, urged the security agencies deployed to Ekiti ahead of Saturday’s governorship election to act within the ambit of the laws of the land.

The ex-president’s appeal followed media reports of alleged manhandling of some people, including Governor Ayodele Fayose in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
