The national chairman of the National Action Council (NAC), Olapade Agoro, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to de-register all parties perceived to be corrupt.
Agoro on Monday, July 30, asked the Federal High Court to make an for the INEC to de-register all political parties whose members admitted they collected N100 million from the previous administration, Vanguard reports.
In a suit filed against four major political parties in Nigeria, Agoro prayed the court to admit all the confessions made by the members of the parties earlier that they collected the money before the 2015 general elections.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/OS/782/17, the politician also urged the court to declare if it is lawful for INEC to look the other way while the political parties “hold sway by allegedly abusing the electoral process with unknown sources of fund.”
The parties include: the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Speaking with journalists in Oyo, Agoro sid two other parties that should be added to the list of alleged corrupt political parties are Accord Party and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He said unless the issue of corruption is dealt with decisively, the future of Nigerian youth and the country is bleak.

In his suit, he also asked to court to declare if it is legal or not for INEC to keep the names of the political parties on its register.
He asked the court to determine whether it is right for the "first defendant, INEC to allow the second, third and fourth defendants to use funds with no traceable sources to induce and corrupt particularly INEC officials to pervert electoral process.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the former chairman of the electoral body, Attahiru Jega, has assured that the forthcoming 2019 general elections will be better than the previous one.
Jega said the current leadership of the electoral body has made significant progress since assuming duty at INEC in November 2015.
He also said the country has had better and improved elections in 2011 and 2015 especially, giving the level of preparedness of the current INEC.
