2019: Don't elect anyone with military background - PDP presidential candidate warns Nigerians

- As the 2019 general polls approach, Atahiru Bafarawa, a PDP presidential aspirant, has asked Nigerians to beware of the antics of politicians

- Bafarawa said that Nigeria does not need anyone with military background to be elected as president

- He further said that with his rich credential as a true democrat, he is worthy of running for the presidency

A former governor of Sokoto state and a presidential aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atahiru Bafarawa, has advised Nigerians against voting for anyone who has a military background in 2019.

Bafarawa claimed that a retired army general cannot be a true democratic leader going by his or her orientation, Daily Trust reports.

The PDP presidential aspirant said this in Port Harcourt, Rivers on Thursday, August 30, during his visit to the state. He told party delegates that he has a rich credential as a true democrat to run for the presidency.

Bafarawa said: “I am in Port Harcourt to seek the support of PDP delegates in the forthcoming presidential primaries. I am also here to seek the advice of PDP delegates as it concerns the presidential primaries.

“The most important thing the country needs now is a good economy, security and education. These are the key areas we want to delve into when given the opportunity. We want to see how we can take this country out of the mess we have found ourselves.”

“I am a true democrat. There is a difference between somebody who is an army general, somebody who was train to kill and defend himself than a true democrat.”

He warned the delegates to beware of politicians that might lure them with all kinds of promises and incentives for their own gains.

Bafarawa had earlier paid a condolence visit to Governor Nyesom Wike over the death of the state’s attorney-general, Emma Aguma.

Wike, while receiving him, called on all PDP presidential aspirants to forge a common-front to oust the All Progressives Congress-led administration.

Wike stated: “Power comes from God. If God says it is you, there is nothing any man can do about it. Man can only struggle.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that Bafarawa had said that there should not be a consensus among the rising number of presidential aspirants on the platform of the PDP.

Bafarawa, having obtained his expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the presidential ticket of the party ahead of the 2019 general polls at the PDP's national secretariat in Abuja, remarked that the number of presidential aspirants indicated the party's growing strength.
