The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC)'s budget was on Thursday, August 30, reduced by a total amount of N200 million by the joint committee of the National Assembly on matters concerning the electoral body.
Recall that a budget proposal of N189 billion was earlier submitted by INEC for the coming general election. But after a tough screening by the committee, a resolution detailing a total amount of N143 billion (N143,512,529,455) was adopted for INEC's 2019 election activities.
NAIJ.com gathers that the committee of seven members headed by Suleiman Naif, however, ordered INEC to summit a budget of N143 billion to be reviewed by a sub committee consisting six men on Thursday, August 30.

After the review, the committee represented by its chairman said an amount of exactly N200,272,500 million was cut down by the sub-committee, adding that the funds be sourced from service-wide votes under the special intervention programme so as to avoid unnecessary inflation of the budget.
According to a report by The Punch, the committee came up with the conclusion that their resolution will be forwarded to the committee of appropriation for final approval.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that INEC budget was axed down from N189 billion to N143 billion on Tuesday, August 28.
The electoral body's budget lost a total amount of N45.6 billion when questions from the committee on how 45.6 billion naira on the proposal would be drawn could not be answered by its representatives.
