As the siege on the National Assembly continues, the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Omolori, has been denied access to the National Assembly.
Omolori arrived the National Assembly premises at around 10:02am, but was denied entry by the masked Department of State Services (DSS) personnel who are currently occupying the main gate of the federal legislative building.

The Clerk on arrival at at the National Assembly confronted the deployed DSS operatives on why his staff and others were being denied access to the premises.
They replied that they were acting on orders from above.
He angrily turn back and left, but addressed National Assembly staff, asking them to remain calm as he was not aware of what was going on..
He also cautioned them not to take laws into their hands, assuring them that he was not a party to what was going on.

Omolori assumed his role in May 2016, following the retirement of Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa as the Clerk. On August 15 of the same year, the National Assembly Service Commission confirmed him as the substantive Clerk.
No major sitting can hold in the Clerk's absence according to the legislative rules.
Meanwhile, Senator Godswill Akpabio has resigned his seat as the Senate minority leader in a letter dated August 4, 2018.
Akaapbio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom state, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
