Ronaldo tipped to break 89-year old Serie A all time goal record with Juventus this season

Juventus summer signing Cristiano Ronaldo has been tipped to break Italian League goals record in a single season.

Gino Rossetti became the first player to net 36 goals in the Italian topflight in the 1928-29 league season.

Gonzalo Higuain's chances of breaking the over eight decades record in the 2015-16 season failed as the Argentine was only able to equal Rossetti's record.

Meanwhile, the former Real Madrid star is expected to topple the record that has remained unbroken for close to a century now.

The Sun citing bookmakers report that Ronaldo has a 6/1 chance to break the long-standing record in his first season with the Old Lady.

He was phenomenal for the current Champions League holders - scoring 40 or more goals in a season on three occasions with Los Blancos.

This saw him average 34.5 goals during his nine seasons at the Bernabeu - which stands him in good stead to tackle the record set in Serie A.

Though he fired blank in his competitive debut for the Turin side against Chievio last weekend, he will have the chance to grab his first goal next up at home to Lazio.

Betfair Spokesperson Katie Baylis said: "Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus was a massive coup for the Italian club and the level of interest in them around the world is at fever pitch.

"But as one of the biggest clubs on the planet, Juve didn’t sign Ronaldo just for the publicity and they will expect his incredible goal scoring record to continue in Turin.

"The Portuguese superstar sets incredibly high standards for himself and he is no doubt eyeing up the Serie A goal scoring record of 36 goals which was first set over 80 years ago and has only been matched once since by Higuain for Napoli in 2015/16.

"From those stats you can tell it’s no mean feat, even for the best player in the world and so we have it at 6/1 that Ronaldo will score 37 goals or more this season and add another record to his incredible back catalouge."

NAIJ.com previously reported that Juventus set to agree a deal with Spanish club Real Madrid for the signing of Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo.

Since Portugal crashed out of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the former Manchester United star has been linked with a move to Italy, and according to Sky Sports, Juventus are close to land the 33-year-old.

Juventus are said to have made £88m bid for Cristiano Ronaldo, and Real Madrid are ready to be open to the move.
