Abuja court sacks top APC official from party’s position, orders fresh election

The election of the national organising secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Emma Ibediro, has been nullified by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The court in a decision on Monday, September 24, also ordered the party to conduct a fresh poll for the office within 30 days.

The ruling followed a suit filed by the plaintiff, a candidate for the party’s organising secretary in the party’s last national convention, Osita Izunaso, The Punch reports.

The litigant had challenged the election to the office of the national organising secretary of the party. He asked the court to determine whether the election into the office of national organising secretary of APC was marred by violence.

The plaintiff said some thugs, numbering up to 100, disrupted the election.

He alleged that the thugs made it impossible for votes of delegates from Jigawa, Adamawa, Anambra, Abia and Imo states to be counted when they broke the ballot boxes.

He claimed that if the votes of those delegates were counted, they would have bridged the 290 vote margin between him and Ibediro.

He said the violence by the thugs led to the disenfranchisement of delegates from some states.

The litigant urged the court to rule that as a result of the disenfranchisement of some of the delegates, it was wrong for the APC to declare Emma Ibediro, winner of the election which he said was inconclusive.

In delivering the Justice Dimgba ruled that the election did not follow the electoral act and the guidelines made by the party for the convention.

The judge said it was clear that their actions disrupted the election.

“In the report, INEC said that the election was conducted in line with guidelines of the 2018 APC elective convention and so it failed in its monitoring function with respect to election into the office of the National Organising Secretary,” the judge ruled.

Meanwhile, an All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant in Delta state, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, has raised alarm over an alleged threat to his life and plot to eliminate him over his 2019 senatorial ambition and lingering tussle trailing the party in the state.

Emerhor in a petition to the Inspector General of Police, also accused the senator representing Delta Central senatorial district, Ovie Omo-Agege of being the brain behind the plot to assasinate him.

In the petition dated Thursday, September 20, Emerhor noted that he got the information on the plot against his life from a concerned individual who advised him to beef up his security network following plots to assassinate him.
