- Buhari urges the media to complement efforts of security agencies to curtail clashes in the country

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, September 2, during an interactive meeting with the Nigerian community in China, accused the media organisations of bias in reporting conflicts in the country.

The Guardian reports that the Nigerian media should complement efforts of the security agencies, who he said are doing their best to curtail clashes, by being objective in their reportage.

NAIJ.com gathers that the president said: “To my disappointment, the members of the press in Nigeria do not make enough efforts to study the historical antecedents of issues that are creating national problems for us."

Buhari, who is in Beijing for the seventh summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, called on the media to understand the cultural and historical implications of some of the misunderstanding especially between herdsmen and farmers.

According to him, a farm that used to belong to five people now belongs to 50. He said the weather condition, particularly the rainy season, has become unpredictable.

President Buhari partly blamed the crisis between herdsmen and farmers on the shrinking of the Lake Chad. According to him, the shrinking has forced many nomads to graze their herds in other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Nigerian presidency denied a widely published report indicating that President Muhammadu Buhari would extend his 10-day working leave, which he observed in London.

The presidency, through its various Twitter handles, insisted that the piece of information was fake and drawn from past events.
