- Cristiano Ronaldo refused to attend UEFA gala night because of Florentino Perez

- He was said to have been told that the Real Madrid chief wanted Modric to win UEFA award

- The Croatia international won it in Monaco beating Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah

It has been claimed that Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo missed last Thursday's UEFA gala night in Monaco because of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

The Juventus superstar was said to have been told that Florentino Perez was lobbying with UEFA for them to award Luka Modric the best player in Europe for the 2017/18 season.

According to the report by Gazzetta dello Sport, Cristiano Ronaldo refused to travel to Monaco for the award ceremony because of what he was told.

But UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has denied the claims saying Luka Modric won the award because of the 55 reporters and 80 coaches that voted for him.
