Ganduje lays hold on Kano governorship ticket with 2.7m votes in primary, makes first statement

- Things have gone according to plan for Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano, especially as the primary poll in the state is concerned

- Ganduje has been declared as the winner of the just concluded primary poll in the state with 2,740,847 votes

- The declaration was made by the chief returning officer of the poll, Pius Odudu

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) with 2,740,847 votes.

Ganduje, unopposed in the exercise, was declared as the candidate of the party by the chief returning officer of the just concluded primary poll, Pius Odudu, Daily Trust reports.

Expressing his satisfaction with the election result, the governor commended the peaceful conduct of the election and party members for their support for his re-election ambition.

Ganduje said: “The outcome of the primaries has showed that electorates have faith in what we are doing towards strengthening democracy through provision of developmental projects, programmes and policies."

Speaking through his deputy, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, Ganduje urged party members across the country to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari during the forthcoming 2019 presidential election.

The governor stated: “Our major concern is to take Nigeria to the next level of development. APC chooses to conduct direct primary in order to make the electoral process more participatory, fairer and all-inclusive where everyone will have sense of ownership.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that Ganduje, on Monday, February 12, assured President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC of getting up to five million votes from the state in the 2019 presidential election.

Ganduje made this statement while reacting to the victory of the APC in the just concluded local council election in Kano.

The governor who spoke during the swearing in ceremony of the 44 new local government council chairmen, and 484 councillors claimed that the APC was popular in the state.
