La Liga giants Barcelona become first team ever to surpass $1 billion in revenues

Reigning Spanish champions Barcelona are now the first football club in the world $1bn revenue figures mark, and the Catalans even achieved this four years earlier than anticipated.

According to the report by UK Sun, Barcelona announced in a statement that they were able to achieve this success because they are the highest sports earning club in the world.

This is the the fifth consecutive year that the club have broken their own record income, but the first time that they have reached the billion dollar mark.

The transfer of Brazilian star Neymar to Paris-Saint-Germain was also said according to the report to have helped Barcelona to record such high revenue.

Neymar's big buyout clause was accounted for in the end of year report.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are also topping the Spanish La Liga standings this season, and they will face Premier League side Tottenham in their next Champions League match.
